TRAFFIC SILENT AUCTION STILL GOING STRONG.

The TRAFFIC silent auction is still going strong. No way for most people to know for sure since Moniker has no update system, for the general public, for viewing ongoing bids. I have 7 names in the silent auction, so some kind of update would be nice. It would seem that some kind of open visual activity of the silent auction would increase interest and might drive more prospective buyers to sign up and buy some names.
Anyway, got my fingers crossed for my 7. I have extremely low reserves on them, so I hope I don't end up giving them away to cheap. Here are the seven. Please go to Moniker.com and sign up and bid. http://silentauction.moniker.com/

Internet Marketing: The Importance of a Domain Name

Internet Marketing: The Importance of a Domain Name

The domain name is the entry to your site. The address people type in their browsers to get to it. You need to pay attention to it, because your company name will not always be the best domain name you can get for your website. There are certain considerations you should keep in mind when choosing the domain name you will use:

· your domain name should be easy to remember for the intended audience

· your domain name should contain keywords so it helps your site positioning in search engines.

With these in mind, you will soon discover that your-company-name.com is not always the best alternative. It depends on whether you have a well established company, with a known name, or you are starting your business.

The domain name is a tool you can use to help your business grow. So don’t miss the opportunity. Spend the necessary time thinking about possible domain names, and trying to find their good and bad aspects.

A good idea is to get more than one domain name and point them to the same website. So if people type your-company-name.com or they type your-keyword-rich-domain.com they get to the same website. This way you can still use your company name as domain name, and also some other keyword rich name you register.

Another good idea is to register common variations of your chosen domain name. For example, if you register mydomain.com, you could also register my-domain.com or mydomains.com.

Once you come up with the domain name(s) you want to use, you need to register them. The first step is to check if they are available, because they could have been already registered by someone else. Once you have verified this, you can register them for a period of time, and they will be yours to use for that period. You can always renew them afterwards, before the period expires.

If you have a domain registration business, one way to gain the trust of prospective customers is to write targeted articles and submit them to directories.

Webmasters are scouring the net everyday for articles in their niche. They use them to post on their site, in their blogs and to send out to their email lists. At the bottom of your article you can put a resource box, that lists your credentials and one or two links back to your website. Publishing articles can benefit your web business in many ways.

Writing informative articles on niche topics will establish you as an expert. When you brainstorm topics for your article be sure you write an informative piece of interest - not just a sales pitch. For example, you could write an article on the benefits of buying .com domains over other domains or maybe do a write up about DNS and how it works. You want something that will grab the readers attention and compel them to click through to your site.

Another benefit has to do with linking. When you publish articles, no reciprocal link is required so you are getting one way links. One way links are valued much more highly by the search engines as they are not as easy to obtain as one way links. This value will increase even more in the future as the SE's try to do repress sites that use link farms and other such strategies.

The links from articles will grow over time as more and more webmasters publish it on their site. Of course, you want to get the most mileage out of each article you write so you want to make sure you submit the article to directories and other web sites where your article will be read and published by webmasters who have a need for content in the domain related niche.

There are many huge article directories with all kinds of topics and you should submit to those, but you should also submit to targeted niche directories such as DomainsContent.com where your article will be read by thousands of webmasters who want to add it to their sites!

Of course the main reason for writing the articles is to get traffic and that you will. Your article could be viewed by hundreds on another persons site or from their emailed newsletter, and they like what it has to say, they may just click through to your site. Believe me, I get plenty of traffic from the articles I write and that traffic can translate into more sales.

Here's some tips on writing a great article that will help boost your domain business:

1. Give people what they want. You can get a lot of ideas about what to write about from the emails that people send you through your site - do they ask about domain privacy and hiding their ownership information? Then an article about this might be just the thing. Another thing you can do is put up a poll on your site and ask the users directly what they want to learn more about.

2. Use an attention grabbing headline. Get them to read the article with an interesting title, something like "How To Pick The Best Domain Name For Your Business" could compel anyone to click and read.

3. Write like you are having a conversation with the reader. Don't just spill out a bunch of boring facts, write like you talk. Go back through and read and edit. Use lots of paragraph breaks in your writing. Don't fit all the sentences into one or two paragraphs - break them up and even separate single sentences that are important. Readers like to skim so make it easy on their eyes. Don't make it too long or too short either about 300 to 600 words is good.

4. Organize our thoughts first. A lot of people get writers block when they sit down to start writing - sometimes just jotting down ideas in an outline form can help.

So what are you waiting for? Get writing and watch your business explode!

Domain name for sale.

Domain name for sale.

If you're in business, one of the most important things to you may be your ability to establish an internet presence. Operating some type of functional web site for your business helps your customers find you, can present additional marketing opportunities through e-commerce, and offers advertising opportunities that you can not get elsewhere. Companies that do not have a web site lose business to companies that do all the time.

Of course the real key to your web site is the internet domain registration. Everybody wants mybusiness.com - the problem is that domain names are unique and can be taken by anyone. If you don't register your desired domain name right away, someone else could take it. The fact is that internet domain registration can turn into a sneaky competitive game. In many cases business owners have gone to register a domain name and found that it had been registered years before they every started the company by some group that is in the business of registering domains and then turning around and selling them for exorbitant rates.

A humorous story came from the 2005 municipal election in North Las Vegas, Nevada when one candidate realized that the incumbent mayor had not registered an internet domain name. The incumbent registered the mayor's name dot com and as many variants of it that he could come up with, literally stealing the Mayor's plans for a web site out from under him. The tactic didn't win him the election, but the candidate managed to annoy the mayor quite a bit and still owns the internet domain registration names to this day.

The key to avoiding these sorts of problems lies in early registration of your desired domain name. If you find the one that you want (or a close variant of it), register it immediately. Even if you're not prepared to set up a web site yet or won't be for several years, register the domain right away anyway.

Registering a domain name before being ready to set up its web site will require the domain name being transferred to the servers of your desired host when you are ready to establish the site. Transferring the domain name once you have selected a web host is a very simple process, but does require you to establish the change with both the registration company and the new host. The new host will provide you with the server information that you, in turn, will need to provide to the company with whom you originally registered the domain. There may be a short waiting period (typically 24 to 72 hours) while both servers get the information updated. Once that process is complete, you'll have your domain safely residing on your host's servers and your site (as long as it's been built) will be ready to go.

The internet domain registration and transfer for your business web site is a simple process and can be completed through automated online systems in most cases. Clearly the most important part of this process is the registration of the domain name and this should always be done as soon as possible, even if it is going to be years before you're ready to get the actual web site up and running.

Web Site Domain Name.

Web site domain name.

Developing our own ecommerce web site isn’t easy. And finding the best web site host can be frustrating. So we need to go through a process of deciding what our real problems are and what we really need. In this article, we will step through the top five “real” problems and look for a nuts and bolts solution that will meet us where we are today and take us where we need to be tomorrow.

*****

“Everybody is doing it.” Boy you have heard that little phrase thrown at you often enough, especially when it comes to designing and hosting your web site.

It can get confusing, that’s for sure. All we want is to get our web site up and have it work really well. But how to get from no web site or from a simple one to a sophisticated site? This is one of what seems like a million questions that come up as we make these important decisions.
Questions, Questions, Questions

The decision on finding the best web site host is not a trivial thing. So the questions that pop into your head can be both confusing and intimidating including…

§ How can I build a web site if I don’t know any programming languages?

§ Who can I trust to help me get my ecommerce domain name registration done right?

§ What about Linux based web hosting? What are the advantages and who can advise me on this decision?

§ How do I decide who is the best web site host for me?

Our goal in this article to start to put some organization to the array of information that we all have to wrestle with when we are trying to pick just the right partner to put up the best web site host possible for our web pages.
Divide and Conquer

So often, when we are faced with a big problem, we have trouble getting our arms around how to even understand the problem, much less the solution. We know how hard it is to grapple with these questions.

They say that if you start to break a problem down into smaller and smaller pieces. So let’s ask two really simple but important questions of each part of the problem.

§ What is the REAL problem here?

§ What will the solution look like?

STEP 1 – A Domain to Call Our Own.

This whole process of getting a domain name can become a maze to those of us who don’t live and breathe computer lingo. Even if we were settled on our name, the path we need to tread to get the name reserved and getting it attached to our web site are hard to get your arms around sometimes.

The real problem is knowing what to do first, second and third. The whole issue of web hosting addresses and domain name registration seems murky and not easy to sort out.

The ideal solution would be to find the best web site host that would include services to either help us understand the whole domain registration process or just handle it for us at a reasonable rate.
STEP 2 – Talented and Cheap!

There really is no question that we are going to use a company to serve as our web hosting web site. So one of the primary goals of our quest is to find best web site host that will serve our needs well as we go online. To state it plainly, we want a web hosting service that is talented and cheap.

How can we cut through the hundreds of web hosting companies to find the one that is perfect for our needs? In short, we need a small business web host site that will be a repository of web design and hosting talent and they will offer there services for a reasonable price.
STEP 3 – There’s No Place Like Home

Your small business host web site will reside on a server somewhere. That is the place you upload your web pages to and that handles all of the traffic and much of the “business” that is generated by your web site. So right now, you consider what the best web site host that your ecommerce business web site will call home.

The real problem also is finding the best web site host that knows what our problems are and how to deal with people who are not web programmers but want a high quality ecommerce web hosting provider that can meal all of our needs.

The real solution will look like a company that is built from the ground up around servicing people like you and me that need someone to cut through the mumbo jumbo and help us get our web site up and working well quickly and economically.
STEP 4 – Do I look Like a Computer Guru?

The computer industry is not an easy one for the regular businessperson to understand.

The real problem is NOT that you don’t know how to program a web page or that your web programming skills are not up to the most recent bells and whistles the professional developers use.

The problem is that you SHOULDN’T HAVE TO know how to be a computer programmer just to have affordable ecommerce web site.

The ideal solution would look like a company that can not only provide anything from hosting a Linux streaming server to a FrontPage based host web site to a host MP3 site if we need it at a reasonable cost and without making us provide the training, the talent and the technical savvy to get the job done right.
STEP 5 – Where Do We Go From Here?

Even if you know exactly where you are in the development process, how do you go about mapping out what step one through one hundred is to take your site from where it is to a state of the art ecommerce web site?

The real problem can be summed up in one word – experience. We don’t have it and we need someone with a wealth of it.

The real solution will be a company that wins your trust because they build their services around your needs, your budget and your timeline.
Are We Dreaming?

Are we dreaming that such a company exists? The search for a company starts with recommendations from friends and others who like us want an affordable ecommerce web hosting company. The list we get from our research will almost certainly include epinions as a research tool.

But better than that, you will be able to find additional services as the sophistication of our site grows and so do our needs. Their services are leveled so we can step up at our pace so we are always at a level that we need and always have an answer to that question “where do we go from here?”
